Softail Frames are the most widely used frame in the after market motorcycle industy. The orginal design of the Softail motorcycle gives you the benefit of the Rigid Frame motorcycle look but allows for a more comfortable ride due to the fact that it has suspension. The shock absorbers are located on the underside of the motorcycle where you can't see them. This is very desirable based on the cosmetic appearance of the motorcycle as many people don't want to see shock absorbers on the rear portion of their motorcycle. Handling characteristics of Softail motorcycles are somewhat affected due to the geometry of the swing arm and shock absorbers. Since the drivetrain is bolted rigidly into Softail motorcycle frames the rider experiences the harsh vibrations and engine firing pulses being transferred throughout the frame and motorcycle. More designs and alterations have been made to the Softail Frame than any other type frame being built in this industry today.
